These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This should be considered in future studies Keywords If burnout is a common entity of the two components, there should be a similar pattern for them in relation to health. The results indicate that it is meaningless to discuss in terms of burnout and health. One interpretation of this result could be that depersonalization independently act as a form of coping mechanism for and therefore could be beneficiary for some health aspects. Depersonalization was positively related to musculoskeletal and gastrointestinal health. Emotional exhaustion was related to all three health indicators, primarily to psychological health, while depersonalization was insignificant for this health aspect. The results showed different patterns for the two burnout components in relation to health. The relations between emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and three health indicators, psychological, musculoskeletal, and gastrointestinal health, were analyzed in regression analyses. The objective of this paper was therefore analyze emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, investigating their relation to different aspects of health, on a large research material from two Swedish human service organizations. There is however a lack of serious attempts to relate burnout to health. Emotional exhaustion and depersonalization are usually considered to be parts of the burnout phenomenon, which has been the object of much research. ![]()
